Engine Tuning Tips for Cars

Engine tuning is the adjustment, modification with design of internal combustion engines to yield optimal performance, to increase an engine's power output, economy, or durability. Tuning describes a wide variety of adjustments and modifications, from the routine adjustment of the carburetor and ignition system to significant engine overhauls. At the other end, performance tuning of an engine can involve revisiting some of the design decisions taken at quite an early stage in the development of the engine. Your car should receive a tune-up every two years or 30,000 miles, whatever comes first. During this tune-up process a car may receive some new parts that will hopefully keep it out of the shop for a while or a month.

Some important Engine tuning tips

  • Where to Start Engine Tuning- Start tuning up your car by removing the distributor cap. Make sure that you remember the position of the cap so that you are able know how to replace it again and where to replace it. Check out for any signs of wearing. Once the distributor cap is put off, we can take out the rotor and replace it. If you’re in need of replacing the rotor, you should also replace the distributor cap with it, as they react to make a spark. Replacement of the spark plug wires and the spark plug is also necessary from time to time. This will give you better start up of the engine every time .Also, while replacing all of these elements, check the air filters. They should be also replaced if there is apparent wear in them.

Oils and Lubricants-Use high quality oils and lubricants when tuning up your car. One of the most important thing while doing a regular tune up is to top up or completely change the fluids in the car. Change motor oil every 3,000 miles to get the best performance out of your engine. Use coolant additives such as Water from Redline to bring down the temperature of your engine. Oil filters should also be changed every other time you change your oil.

  • Further Maintenance for your car -A tune up generally includes replacement of several parts on your car. These parts are seen superficial, but failing to replace them regularly can cause decreasing performance of the car, and may even lead to other problems. For example, consider air filter should be replaced at least once in a year, failing to replace it when it's dirty causes your engine to get lessen of the air it needs to run properly. If the problem is left not attended, the air-fuel mixture will continue to run more richly and r much fuel and not enough air in the mixture. Maintenance that is not included in the basic tune schedule may also be required, so a yearly tuning  Up provides a good opportunity to check the car's systems.

Such as the brakes and clutch, all fluid and oil levels, and the operation of any other systems that are not used or checked regularly. If the tune up is performed in spring weather or early summer, the air conditioning system should be checked as well, as it likely will not have been used for many months. When you perform any diagnostics it's not much good to get, for example a voltage reading should be known correctly with what the correct reading should be. Since testing has become an exact science, diagnostics have to go in a certain order or else the test results which you will get could be meaningless. So you need to find the latest factory diagnostic sequences and specifications for this purpose.
